As the field of sleep medicine has grown, the insurance regulations for diagnostic testing and treatments have become more stringent. Patients now must meet very specific eligibility requirements that are documented in the medical office visit notes. Our Medical Specialty Group team is specifically trained and updated on this ever-evolving landscape of regulations to minimize the chance that testing or treatment will be delayed or denied due to documentation deficiencies.

With CPAP Being The Gold Standard

Although CPAP or Positive Air Pressure is the gold standard for treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea it remains difficult therapy as 50% of those prescribed PAP discontinue its use after one year and that number  climbs to 83% failure at five years.  As such, with PAP "we have efficacy but chase compliance".

While With Oral Appliance Therapy

We have "compliance but chase efficacy".  Oral Appliances can be very effective in treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea but remain a little more site specific than PAP Therapy.  As such in many instances other than the severe cases we will start with an appliance first and then add PAP to it, in what is called "Combination Therapy" for those situations in which an appliance may not be as effective as we would like.
