Cerec restorations are no doubt state of the art.  They are a unique blend of high tech Cad Cam computer milling blended with a component nearly lost in dentistry; that human artistic custom fitting and fine adjustment. The task is more difficult but the rewards are unmatchable any other way.  This technology has been nearly fifteen years in the making and long term results have been impressive with over 4 million restorations having been placed.

A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW!

A FEW OF THE BENEFITS TO YOU:

1. One visit laboratory quality bonded restorations - no more impressions, no more temporaries, no second visit.

2. The restoration can be done in place of what in the past would have been a full crown. Therefore much more of your tooth structure is saved - a process we dentists would like for our own teeth.

3. The tooth looks natural and contains no metal.

4. The Bonding procedure actually strengthens the tooth.

5. The filling wears similar to your own tooth enamel and is therefore kind to the apposing and neighboring teeth.

6. We are able to do in a matter of hours what used to require multiple visits and the help of a dental lab.  The cost is more for this high tech process but likely less time is spent out of work and away from your normal activities and you emerge with a more durable tooth.

Insurance Issues:

Even though the recommendations we make for you will always be the same as we would make for ourselves and our family, there are also a few issues you should understand regarding most dental insurance companies.  Most do not stay current with new technology although as already mentioned Cerec has been around for nearly 15 years.  Your carrier may use various methods to reduce payment to you and save themselves money. Among them:

1. They often times change the procedure code that we submit to them to a lesser covered code. This is because they would rather us place an outdated silver filling in your tooth to save them money even though the quality is not even close to comparable. Many practices do not even do the outdated procedures insurance carriers would have done for you.

2. Often times they will agree to pay for a crown even though a more conservative Cerec restoration would be better for the tooth. It is as if the more tooth structure you have removed the more they will pay. It is more difficult, involves more time and skill to place a Cerec than a full crown; most dental offices can do probably two or more conventional crowns in the time it takes to conservatively prepare a tooth for and bond a Cerec.  We do not allow the above issues to influence us to do more aggressive procedures and cut away more of your tooth. We understand economics influences choices but would recommend that you not allow insurance to dictate your quality of health care. Insurance is meant to be a help in paying for your dentistry but not meant to dictate what you should and should not have done. Our recommendations to you will always be as we would do for ourselves; if you choose a lesser service and can accept the limitations of that service - we have no problem with that.

The equipment costs well over $90,000 and the learning curve is steep, about a year  - an example of our total commitment to your health.
